Lakefield

The jewel of the area!  Situated on the banks of Katchewanooka Lake on the Trent Severn Waterway, this quaint community is best known for Lakefield College School, which Royalty has attended in the past (namely, Prince Andrew).  Katchewanooka Lake is between the lock at Young’s Point and the lock at Lakefield.

Lakefield is an active community with a wonderful trail to Trent University and on to Peterborough.  It is an area of avid cyclists on the road and the trail.  Other recreational opportunities include the Speed Skating Oval, a unique outdoor feature.  There is also a robust Pickleball Community in Lakefield.  A Community Centre offers activities year-round.

On Wednesdays, in the summer, behind the Community Centre, there is a Farmer’s Market with buskers and a variety of local goods including food and handmade items.

For shopping, the main street has several popular stores and a fabulous bakeshop.  Sun Blockers is an amazing supplier of quality swimwear, year-round.  A large building houses Cottage Toys which is exactly what they advertise in addition to clothing.  Tragically Hip is a great spot for womenswear and should not be missed.  The bulk food store is adjoined to a book store and the building still boasts the vibe of yesteryear.  For all of your household needs, there is a Home Hardware as well.

If you have the opportunity to dine in Lakefield, The Family Greek Restaurant is affordable and has a family-friendly menu with amazing pizza!  If you are thirsty, check out The Canoe and Paddle downtown or visit The Loon which has chef-inspired and prepared meals that will make your mouth water, or just drop in for a drink.

Amenities of Lakefield include an IGA grocery store, an LCBO, The Beer Store, The Legion, the Community Centre/Arena, a Library, Tim Hortons, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, and many stores and restaurants.  There is a bowling alley as well!  A free boat launch and a beautiful marina are the highlights of this village.  I’d love to show you around this cute village.  It’s a desirable area and the houses go fast, so if you’re looking to live in Lakefield, call me and I’ll keep an eye on it for you!

Noteworthy:  It is worth the drive to Young’s Point (about fifteen minutes north), to check out Lockside Trading Company and get ice cream.
